La tabla periódica de los elementos es quizá el icono más reconocible de toda la ciencia. Esta tabla sirve de modelo para comprender cómo se disponen los átomos y las moléculas para crear la materia que experimentamos en nuestro mundo, revelando la organización de las estructuras al nivel más fundamental. En este contexto, el proyecto explora y reimagina los intrincados sistemas del Capitaloceno a través de la metáfora de una tabla periódica. Categoriza las «partículas» fundamentales que definen nuestra era, como la extracción económica, las crisis ecológicas, las construcciones culturales y las desigualdades sistémicas, al tiempo que pone de relieve su naturaleza interconectada. Al desglosar los retos globales del Capitaloceno en elementos identificables, el proyecto proporciona un marco para comprender las fuerzas que configuran nuestro mundo. Invita a la reflexión crítica sobre cómo pueden reconfigurarse estos sistemas para crear un futuro más sostenible y equitativo.
MAPPING THE CAPITALOCENE: A TYPOLOGY OF ITS ELEMENTS
The periodic table of elements is perhaps the most recognizable icon in all of science. This chart serves as a model for understanding how atoms and molecules are arranged to create the matter we experience in our world, revealing the organization of structures at the most fundamental level. In this context, the project explores and reimagines the intricate systems of the Capitalocene through the metaphor of a periodic table. It categorizes the fundamental "particles" that define our era, including economic extraction, ecological crises, cultural constructs, and systemic inequalities, while highlighting their interconnected nature. By breaking down the global challenges of the Capitalocene into identifiable elements, the project provides a framework for understanding the forces that shape our world. It invites critical reflection on how these systems can be reconfigured to create a more sustainable and equitable future.
